Acknowledgements

I own a great debt to my family first and foremost, for their invariant understanding and support.

To my parents, Yipeng Chen (陈轶鹏) and Chuhua Lin (林春华), for their endless love and tolerance. They are the great parents who always left me with the best, playing their crucial role in paving the way for my future. I would also like to say to them my inner love where I incomparably treasure the time that I can still be with them in the rest of their lives.

To my lovely sister TTon (陈思彤), thank you for giving happiness and humor to my daily grind from time to time. Thanks to other loved ones and friends who I haven’t enumerated, for the kindness they always bring to me.

Finally, thanks to the Eureka theme for rendering my personal website.

Year 2024

Jiajun Yin (殷家君)

Steward of the Diexue Free Workplace (Guangzhou)

I would like to thank Ms. Yin, for her kindness and efforts to provide a cozy vibe for working. In fact, the primary part of my writing work “popularization of causal science” was completed exactly at the Diexue free workplace by half a year — with countless cups of coffee and the cozy space.

Wei Chen (陈薇)

Assistant Professor, Advisor of My Undergraduate Research

I owe a great debt to my advisor Wei Chen. I would not have completed my work “writing a primer about causal diagram learning” during my busy graduation season, but for remembering the encouragement from her two years ago — when I started studying causation but being lack of English proficiency, struggling with reading a paper for several months — : “Do it, just keep your own interest and rhythm”.

Year 2023

Ruichu Cai (蔡瑞初)

Director of the DMIR lab (Data Mining and Information Retrieval Laboratory)

I will be forever grateful to Prof. Cai, about the moral that he wanted to teach me of how to craft my research path ahead of I left the DMIR lab, by picturing a case on a bus: Should you fight for the right of using a seat if you find a bully occupying the empty seat? — you should.

I didn’t realize the moral until I am preparing for graduation, and need to truly fight for my future career all by my self: Merely bearing the virtue of sharing seats to help others is not enough; only if we “occupy” the seat as well, could we be genuinely capable of showing our kindness, and share the seat to the people who need it.

Year 2022

Wenxin Yang (杨文新)

Secretary of Youth League Committee of School of Computer Science, GDUT

Although changing the major amounted to pull up stakes and start over, Sec. Yang has not only helped me to better keep up with the pace, but gave me great supports on several aspects such as summer college internships and foreign institution applications.

Dongning Liu (刘冬宁)

Dean of School of Computer Science, GDUT

I owe a great debt to Prof. Liu, for willing to learn about my situations (major switch) in person, never evaluating a student’s capability only by tests attributes, and always generously sharing with me about how to plan for my university study whenever I visit his office and talk with him.

Year 2021

Yue Liu (刘悦)

Secretary of Youth League Committee of School of Architecture Design and Urban Plan, GDUT

I must acknowledge my dear counsellor Yue Liu when I was in the School of Architecture, who supported me in major change (to Computer Science) and encouraged me to choose what I love. She has been the best counsellor I have ever met. She often contacts me after I left for the new environment, caring about my recent developments.
